Scams, SPAM, SEO – 3 golden rules and a baby

65 Sleeps to Christmas!

The rumours of my death were wildly exaggerated πŸ˜‰

The merger with the new parent company is almost ready for the November launch and I thought as I take a break on this marvellous Friday that I’d take a look at the top trends affecting small businesses on the web for the financial year that ended before the calendar year rushes towards us!

Firstly let me say THANK YOU to everyone in our extended business family – we love solving your problems and we love all the great responses. You have no idea how much your words of thanks

But we just fixed that $#!%?

Call the plumber, your business has a $#!% blockage!

This was to be the February Newsletter but the CloudBleed fiasco took over!
I want to start this year with a better system, so we’ve installed new newsletter software. It wasn’t “needed” but I heard from some of you (notably people using regional Telstra services – what the hell, Telstra?!) weren’t getting them. There’s no point me getting all preachy saying “you should know” about some of the basic tips and reader feedback, when you haven’t got a clue what’s been said in the ILS newsletters πŸ˜‰

I’m also changing things up

URGENT change your passwords now! Cloudflare – Cloudbleed bug could expose your passwords!

This is an urgent notice to all iLoveSimple clients and contacts.

If you are in the habit of using the same passwords in multiple websites, change them TODAY. Whether it’s for accessing your emails via a website like Hotmail or Gmail, Internet Banking or Facebook – if you use the same password in multiple places, you should change them.

This is not a fire-drill.

In case you are not familiar with the problem caused by the Cloudbleed bug, which involves Cloudflare, I felt it imperative that I let everyone know that given 4.2 million websites have potentially had private information and sessions leaked

I hate one day sales – but this one is a ripper!

Just a quick one because a colour laser for under $240 is too good to not pass along

colour-laser-under-240-oct19-specialNo, I’ve never posted a one-day sale because they ANNOY me!

The only thing that annoys me more are the nagging salespeople that try and convince me to pass them along to my clients… but a Dell Network ready colour laser printer for under $240? It’s cheaper than most Ink Jet Printers…
I had to ask Riiiiight what’s the catch?
He said t
he next model is coming out and they are clearing stock – today only,

Internet, phone, 1300 number AND 2 mobiles for $98?

Bargain Hunting and Making money

This month I’m going to ask you which mode you’re in – saving money or making money and I’ll show you how I have a $98 communication bill.
(There will be a follow-up email on some SCAMs to watch out for in the coming days too)

Bargain Hunting

There are two ways to help your business;
Make money (number two priority)
and saving money (all too often the top priority)
When I was a kid, I had a weird and wonderful hippy sister on one hand who hated hurting the environment a Dad who fixed things

How cheap outsourcing can destroy your business – we test AirTasker!

Bargain Hunting

It can be an addiction.
In the race to save your business money (which should be your second or THIRD objective) it’s so easy to feel invigorated when you get an amazing deal. So much so you can forget how much of your day you just spent to save that $10 on your favourite mouse (that you didn’t really need).
BUT how many times have you snatched up a “bargain” that was so cheap and just thrown it out after a month? Cheap knockoffs don’t have the money for customer complaints or returns and you

National Consumer Fraud Week 18 – 24 May 2015

Ausa

An Australasian Consumer Fraud Task force initiative

A few people missed this report last month so I’m sending it out again!

If you haven’t thought about how to protect yourself from hackers and scammers? You’ve probably got your proverbial pants down and your pockets are already empty.

Right now, some scammer could be using your identity to perform all sort of unscrupulous behaviour. And not just on your bank accounts…

During Fraud Week 18 – 24 May 2015, the Australasian Consumer Fraud Task force urges Australian consumers and businesses to get smarter with their data and keep it out of the hands

iLoveSimple newsletter – URGENT Google Update for ALL websites – May 2015

Urgent Google update

I’m sure you’re all sick of me saying “GET YOUR WEBSITE MOBILE READY” well now, thanks to Google if your site isn’t mobile ready then you’re going to lose traffic.

Now, the boffins are arguing back and forth but they are disagreeing about big sites and frankly all I care about are hard facts affecting you guys and the effects are already being seen on our servers with reduced numbers of visitors.
Here is the Google Blog post

iLoveSimple newsletter – turn $1000 into $80,000?? – Jan 2014

Welcome to 2014! The first 30 months of iLoveSimple have ticked over and the new format newsletter is going to shock some people.

Bad luck.

Why? Because the feedback I’ve been getting is that you prefer it when I don’t hold back. If something’s stupid, you want me to say it’s stupid – which is actually closer to me in the flesh. I guess I enter polite-mode when I’m writing newsletters because when I’m writing a book, editors get nervous when I put too much character in there – but you asked for it, so here it is!

Cue evil laughter…

So what can

Create an App – golden rules!

But Trent! I can’t write an App – Apps cost too much to build – I don’t know what to make….

If you have money right now in an interest bearing account or Term Deposit – you’re getting what? 4%? 5%? Now if you put $2000-5000 into a professional app, the average return would be 150% within 18months and that’s just if your idea is average….

BUT just use common sense before you run off to make an App. Make sure to remember the main focus my team and I have when we make anything…

See a need, fill a need.

Β It’s really that
